Today is Candlemas

Don’t you just love that word Candlemas, the very word evoking images of flickering candles in front of cosy log fires?

IMG_2291 (1)But it’s really about marking the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox – the end of  the 3 months which have the lowest daily energy from sunlight. In other words, things can only improve and we can dare to think of spring (especially with the snowdrops out).

_BBB6234 That doesn’t mean the chances of a wintry spell are less. Far from it in my experience. Indeed, as the old sayng goes “If Candlemas day be fair and bright                                                                                                                                      Winter will have another flight If on Candlemas day it be shower or rain Winter is gone and will not come again”
