Hygge is the new buzz word

Pronounced hoo-ga, this Danish word defies literal translation. In essence it means enjoying life’s small but soothing moments – perhaps nibbling cinnamon pastries with one hand while reading a good book with the other…it’s about investing in emotional wellbeing through the simple and homespun (mind you, the traditional hand knitted socks may be a step too far).

Imagine going for a brisk country walk or a ‘blow’ along the shore, wrapped up against the wind which whips at your hair and brings a glow to your cheeks – and then coming back to a welcoming cosy and comfortable cottage. Picture snuggling down amid soft cushions, flickering candles and basking in the warmth of a wood-burning stove, with a delicious deli supper washed down with lashings of guilt-free wine.
